Paint recycling project is underway at Fuller Center for Housing in Hammond

The ReUse Store will collect and recycle usable latex and water-based paints and blend them into new colors. Paint will be poured into new containers and labeled with a color sample for easy selection. The paint will be processed to ensure it is free of any debris and be essentially like new. We will encourage our customers to buy enough to complete their projects, because once the color is gone, it cannot be replicated. New colors will be available weekly.

The ReUse Store accepts donations during our regular hours of operation Tuesday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The donations should be usable, free of mildew or musty odors, and no hardening. It must be interior or exterior water-based latex paint. It should be in its original container (hopefully with a readable label). We cannot except oil based paint products.

Similar programs in New Orleans have diverted as much as 40,000 gallons of paint per year from improper disposal into landfills.
